What Does Hosting Mean? Hosting, in its most generic sense, is a service through which storage and computing resources are providing to an individual or organization for the accommodation and maintenance of one or more websites and related services. So for web development, we need hosting to locate and keep all the files and pictures and manage the database.
Some of my client ask me is it ok if, they just want to build the website without purchase the hosting. The answer is yes. There’s a few company that provided hosting for free. Which mean, we can host our files at their hosting without need to pay anythings. Anyhow, there are lot of limitation for that kind of hosting such as we can’t access the database system or change file permission. The system also come with a lots of issue such as security issue, slow loading, limited memory and space, and etc. Therefore the best option is, we need to buy our own hosting.
How much should I pay for hosting?
Actually there is no specific answer for this question. This is because, price for hosting range from a couple of bucks to thousand dollar. It’s depend on how big resources that you need. The bigger memory, disc space, bandwidth, the more expensive it will be. So basically for normal website range 5-15 pages with low traffic, will cost you around RM 200 per year.
Do I need to renew my hosting?
Yes, we need to pay for hosting renewal either monthly or yearly. Normally, we paid on yearly per basis. If we do not make payment for hosting renewal, the service provider will suspend our account. Normally, they will inform us 30 days before expired and we need to make a payment before the date. Some provided might charge you for a penalties if you renew the hosting after the due date. So, it’s important for us to take an action and make a payment before getting suspended. Normally for my customer, i will manage and renew the hosting for them to avoid hosting being suspended of terminate.
